Coach Art Sharpsteen coached over three decades, beginning in 1935. His teams won 70% of their games. His teams won many league and Section IV titles. (There were no regional or state tournaments at the time). He started intramural and youth leagues to promote basketball. He co-founded the first basketball camp in Broome County. He served on League and Sectional committees. He also was a basketball official from 1939-1965.He was named Coach of the Year many times by the League and newspaper. He is a member of the Waverly HS and Section IV Halls of Fame and was a Navy LT in World War II.
