Howlan was a legendary coach at St. Mary’s Amsterdam and Bishop Scully HS for 35+ years. His teams won 66% of games played and won many league titles. Coach Howlan is the founder of Amsterdam CYO program and served asthe League’s chairman. He has received multiple Coach of the Year awards, is a member of the St. Mary’s and Bishop Scully Halls of Fame and has the gym at Bishop Scully named in his honor.
